After graduating from college, Jack Diaso, the owner of Heartwood Theory, began his career as a graphic artist in Washington. During this time, he befriended a furniture designer working in the same warehouse as his design firm. Jack had always been interested in woodworking and had been creating his own pieces of furniture. A few months later, he was offered an apprenticeship as a woodworker. Since then, Jack has been building custom furniture and founded Heartwood Theory eight years ago.

“As a one-person shop, my daily tasks are diverse and varied. On any given day, I might be designing pieces, picking up supplies, milling wood, applying finishes, dealing with customers, and paying bills. My typical workday lasts around 12 hours. My customer base is primarily located in northern Nassau County, and I mainly work with residential clients. Most of my business comes from repeat customers or referrals from previous clients. I use my Techno Titan Series CNC router for a variety of tasks throughout the day, from processing sheets of plywood to flattening slabs of wood and much more. With the CNC, I can take on larger jobs and complete them more quickly, thanks to the efficient processing of sheet goods. Additionally, I’ve been able to expand my business into new areas, such as custom engraving and custom parts cutting for a local sign company.”

Recently, Heartwood Theory was commissioned to create a 4-foot-wide sign for a local yacht and sportsman club. “I could only take on this job because of my Techno Titan.
